Kate Weingart was born in a steel town north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and her early years were infused with a creative spirit, a legacy from the women in her family who crafted beautiful textiles with their hands. As an undergraduate student at Pennsylvania State University she took her first art courses. One of her sculptures was accepted in the undergraduate art exhibition in 1970. But her attentions were pulled in other directions and it wasn’t until she retired from Purdue University, as Professor Emeritus in 2006, when her artistic spark manifested again, while she and her husband volunteered for a two year docent training program at The Norton Museum of Art, in West Palm Beach, Fl in 2008.
